Let me assure you.  You are the perfect person to raise your child. And……you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.  In fact, it’s not about being the perfect parent. If you’re like me you’ve tried a lot of different things … as long as it isn’t like my own upbringing.  I never like to be told what to do, so a lot of my parenting reflected my resistance to authority. I had gone through two divorces before Andy, my son, was eight years old.  Feeling out of control myself, I remember I liked the pseudo power I felt by loudly saying, ‘knock it off’ when he was pushing my buttons.

I was default parenting. No plan, just doing whatever I could to keep going.

I discovered the Virtues when my son, Andy, was 15.  I am a songwriter, and when I heard that voice deep inside of me say, “Write the Virtue Songs” my heart immediate jumped with excitement and joy.  I had no idea where my ‘YES’ would lead me.I poured over The Family Virtues Guide every morning for a year and a half. As I wrote these 52+ songs, the virtues began to teach me.  I felt like the angels of virtue were instructing me in gentleness, faithfulness, and joyfulness. When I was writing the song Unity, Andy ran away from home. Unity starts with my own family, the joy of one is the joy of all, the tears of one are the tears of all, the honor of one is the honor of all. Andy did come home.  As I began learning the language of the virtues, our communication began to improve.  As I acknowledge him for his courage and honesty, he began to show it even more.  I want you to have a plan, an easy doable way to bring a life time of practical living skills to your child.  They are the most powerful parenting tools that we have.
